Copyright Policy
Effective 10 September 2026. Last updated 10 September 2026.
Musa Distro respects copyright and expects the artists who release through us to do the same. This page explains how to report an infringement, how an artist answers one, and what happens to an account that keeps collecting them.
1. Reporting an infringement
If you own a copyright, or are authorised to act for the owner, and you believe a release we distribute infringes it, send a written notice to our designated agent below. Under United States law (17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3)) your notice must include all six of these:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- The work you say is infringed. If it is more than one, a list.
- The release you say infringes it, with enough detail for us to find it: the title, the artist name, the store link, the ISRC or the UPC.
- Your address, telephone number and email.
- A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and — under penalty of perjury — that you are the owner or are authorised to act for the owner.
Send it to:
Designated Copyright Agent — Musa Music LLC Suffolk County, New York, United States info@musadistro.com
A notice missing any of the six may not be effective, and we may ask you to complete it before acting.
Be careful what you claim. Anyone who knowingly misrepresents that material is infringing can be liable for damages, including costs and legal fees, under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f).
2. What we do with a notice
When we receive a complete notice we remove or disable the release promptly, tell the artist what was claimed and by whom, and send them a copy of the notice. Any earnings held for that release stay in the balance until the matter is settled.
3. If your release was taken down and you believe it was a mistake
Send us a counter-notice, containing:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- The release that was removed, and where it was available before.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed as a result of a mistake or a misidentification.
- Your name, address and telephone number, your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the district where you live — or, if you live outside the United States, of the district where we are found — and your agreement to accept service from the person who sent the notice.
We forward the counter-notice to the person who complained. If they do not tell us within ten to fourteen business days that they have gone to court to stop you, we may restore the release.
4. Conflicts reported by a store
Separately from these notices, stores run audio fingerprinting and tell our distribution partner when a delivered recording matches another. When that happens we tell you, pause the delivery if it has not gone out, and ask you for proof that you own or control the master and the composition.
Until you answer with that proof, the release does not go out and any earnings from it are held. An unanswered conflict is treated as an admission and the release is removed.
5. Repeat infringers
We keep a record of every complaint we receive against an account. An account that is the subject of repeated, substantiated complaints is closed, and its catalogue removed from the stores. That is a condition of our being able to host anybody's music at all, so it is not negotiable.
6. Covers, samples and interpolations
Recording somebody else's song is legal only when it is licensed. Getting that licence is yours to do, not ours — see the Content Policy. We may ask to see it, and we take down anything that turns out to be unlicensed.
